An AI-powered virtual care provider's unsecured database allegedly exposed thousands of sensitive mental health and substance abuse treatment records between patients and their counselors on the internet - where they were available to anyone, said the security researcher who discovered the trove.




Fortinet confirms data breach after hacker claims to steal 440GB of files

Cybersecurity giant Fortinet has confirmed it suffered a data breach after a threat actor claimed to steal 440GB of files from the company's Microsoft Sharepoint server. Fortinet is one of the largest cybersecurity companies in the world, selling secure networking products like firewalls, routers, and VPN devices. The company also offers SIEM, network management, and EDR/XDR solutions, as well as consulting services.

It typically describes a total physical separation between networks — a literal gap through which no Wi-Fi signals, wires, etc., can pass. 




Major US car rental breach exposes hundreds of thousands

Attackers roamed the systems of Avis Car Rental, a major car rental service provider, for several days, accessing data of nearly 300,000 individuals. Malicious actors breached Avis systems on August 3rd and roamed inside the system for three days until the company secured its networks.




Schools Face Million-Dollar Bills as Ransomware Rises

Schools, colleges and universities face growing costs from ransomware attacks, according to research from Sophos, and educational institutions are struggling to recover after an incident. The State of Ransomware in Education 2024 report found that 44% of schools across 14 nations surveyed faced a ransom demand of $5m or more.
